Board &
General Meeting Minutes
October
24, 2007
For October, the Board Meeting and General Meeting were held simultaneously on Wednesday, October 24. The Board Meeting began at 7:00 p.m. In attendance were Dave Martin, President, Christine VanDornick, DonAmi, Al Gibbs and Kris Sudrovech Ami.
Dave began by discussing the upcoming elections and some of the non-elected positions. Still needed is a co-chair for VP who also assists as ride chair for the advanced rides. Christine said as long as she and Dave are still living in the area, they will continue to assist in this regard, however someone will need to begin getting involved to take over when they do move. Christine said she thought Steve Flick may be someone who might be a possibility. He rides with the advanced group and Christine will talk to him when she sees him next about his interest in this important role. Dave announced that Scott Schaedel has agreed to take over as Secretary if elected.
Nancy Wagner will get more involved in membership and may have someone who can co-chair with this also. She will talk to Paula Matzek as Mitch mentioned Paula may have some interest in getting involved with membership. Diane Beveridge has all of the membership information that used to be held by Jim Shoemaker as he gave Diane everything last year when she took over the Membership role from him. There was also some discussion about someone taking over for the Safety position. Nancy said she will get that worked out and will discuss with various possible individuals taking this over.
Christine gave an update on the Swap. She has sent a letter to the Park District contact and has again requested Centennial Park for the 2008 Swap. In the letter she mentioned that we are looking at renting a tent. She is on another committee that is also looking for a tent for their event, so she will utilize some of the information she learns from that to see if it will work for us. There was some discussion about buying versus renting a tent but that would all depend on the pricing and if it would be what we need. The tent would need to be set up early Saturday morning and would need to accommodate not only a break area for the workers but also a separated area for the office staff. Christine will bring more information to the Board as it becomes available.
The General meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. Dave Martin introduced everyone around the table. Bill and Deb (??), Nancy Wagner, Gary Gilbert, Al Gibbs, Frank ??, Jim MacClure, Christine VanDornick, Don Ami, Kris Sudrovech Ami, Dave Martin and Marilyn Wilkerson were in attendance.
Gary Gilbert nominated Scott Schaedel for the Secretary position. Al Gibbs seconded that nomination. In the September meeting, Dave Martin had been nominated as President, Mitch Polonsky nominated as Treasurer and Al Gibbs nominated as Vice President. The Co-VP is still available. But the full slate of officers is filled for the elections.
Gary made a motion to approve the slate of officers as read, Nancy Wagner seconded the motion. Everyone approved, so it was a unanimous decision and all nominated were elected to the 2008 Board.
Gary asked if we should schedule 0 mile breakfasts over the winter months. Everyone thought that was good idea. So he will shoot for 2 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday during the months of December through March. Some suggested venues were Maxfield’s, Café 14, Le Peep and Egg Factory. Gary will make the decisions on dates and places and will get it posted on the website.
Christine VanDornick said she is planning a ride on Thanksgiving Day and the Friday after Thanksgiving and will get info to Scott for the website. There is also a ride on the 355 extension on November 11 that was mentioned. Marilyn will be leading her final Halloween Hullabaloo with chili and pumpkin bars at her house after the ride. This is the last chance to get miles for the 2007 season.
The Banquet preparations are on schedule and will take place on November 10. All checks need to be sent to Mitch. Price is $20 per person if a bike club member and $35 per person is a non-member.
Gary moved to adjourn the meeting at 7:50 p.m. Bill seconded the motion. The meeting was adjourned.
Dave Martin provided an interesting presentation on his bike trip across America. The pictures and scenery were beautiful and he gave us good descriptions of the terrain and the challenging biking. Thanks to Dave for an interesting presentation.
